Sixth placed Kalamunda faced off with third placed Fremantle CBC at Ray Owen Reserve on Saturday.
Fremantle CBC went into the match as favourites with an impressive eight wins and three losses for the season.
However, despite their ladder positions Kalamunda managed to hold off Fremantle CBC to record an 8.12 (60) to 8.8 (56) victory. They were helped up forward by their coach Justin Simpson who kicked three goals for the match.
This time last year they were sitting in ninth position with just three wins however after Saturday’s win the cougars move into fifth spot.
Kalamunda have had a difficult couple of years in A Grade having finished just one place off relegation for the past two seasons.
Scarborough just managed to take the four points with a one point win over West Coast. Scarborough got out to a 26-point lead at half time but West Coast managed to kick six goals to two in the second half to leave the margin at just one point.
University continue to sit on top of the ladder with a dominant 87-point victory over Whitford.
North Beach and Curtin Uni Wesley were also winners this week.
Mt Lawley had a percentage boosting win with a 77-point domination of Stirling. Mt Lawley remain in fifth position. David Mckinlay kicked five goals for Mt Lawley while his brother Adam kicked four.
Third placed Swan Athletic defeated top of the ladder North Fremantle by 34 points. Cameron Yukich kicked three goals for Swan Athletic.
Wanneroo recorded their seventh win of the season with an 18-point win over Collegians at Wanneroo Showgrounds. Anthony Tsalikis kicked five goals up forward for Wanneroo while Blake Arnold kicked four.
Despite the wins there were no changes to any team’s ladder position since last week.
Another battle between Carlisle and Willetton was on display on Saturday as last time these two sides met the match ended in a draw. Carlisle also knocked Willetton out of the finals last season with an eleven point win in the Elimination Final.
Willetton looked in control for most of the day until a four goal to one last quarter saw Carlisle get a much-needed win by just two points.
Thornlie and Ballajura also had a close match as Thornlie took the win by ten points. Thornlie move into fourth spot while despite the loss Ballajura move up into second.
Kenwick managed to defeat Bullcreek Leeming by just five points. Kenwick are sitting in relegation position and face top of the ladder Kingsley this weekend.
Kingsley and Quinn’s Districts also had wins over Noranda and Melville respectively.
Eighth placed Canning Vale had a huge win over sixth placed Swan Valley. Right from the second quarter Canning Vale had control as they led by 60 points at half time and 77 points at three quarter time. They eventually ran out 24.15 (159) to 7.4 (46) winners. Tim and Matthew Kennelly kicked five goals each for Canning Vale.
Warnbro Swans also had a convincing win over High Wycombe by 109 points. Jordan Sprigg and Jordan Adams both kicked four goals each for Warnbro.
First played fourth when Gosnells and Bassendean came face to face with Gosnells winning by 42 points.
Ocean Ridge and Lynwood Ferndale also had wins last weekend.
A few close matches last weekend in C3 with Mosman Park defeating Ellenbrook by two points, Brentwood Booragoon defeated Piara Waters by seven points and Dianella Morley defeated Cottesloe by eight points.
Snesa and Belmont were the other winners with Belmont moving into eighth position.
Unlike C3, C4 had some big margins with top of the ladder Secret Harbour defeating Yanchep by 121 points. Kwinana boosted their percentage with a 177-point win over Armadale. Osborne Park defeated Jandakot comfortably by 44 points while Cockburn Cobras defeated Bayswater by 95 points.
The upset of the round came from eighth placed Cockburn Lakes who defeated third placed Rossmoyne by 58 points. Rossmoyne move into fourth position while Cockburn Lakes move into seventh.
Swan Athletic continue to dominate E2 after recording a 20.15 (135) to 0.1 (1) victory over Ocean Ridge to remain undefeated.
Ballajura sit on top of the Ian Dargie Colts ladder and are pushing for another premiership despite being in the higher grade this season.
