The Western Australian Amateur Football League will be launching a Senior Women’s Competition in 2018 for the first time in the leagues 96-year history.

The WAAFL plans to conduct two Women’s competitions with a senior community grade catering for those players wishing to participate in a competitive competition while a development grade will cater for those looking for a more social approach at an entry level.

The formation of the WAAFL Women’s competition identifies the need for a senior community competition as well as creating a pathway towards the WAWFL competition.

A restructure of the WAAFL By-Laws will reflect the change to the competition which used to read “Only males are eligible to play in the Senior and Colts competition”

Club who will be fielding teams in the inaugural women’s competition will be announced after team nominations close on the 14th March.

  • 24 February- AFLX Tournament / Women's Come and Try Day 
  • 14 March- Women’s Team Nominations Close
  • 8 April- Women’s Grading Carnival
  • 29 April- Round 1

 

COMPETITION STRUCTURE

Senior Community Women’s Competition

To cater for the influx of women new to the game wishing to participate in a competitive competition. To support WAWFL players not selected to play.

  • Same playing rules as senior men’s competition
  • Minimum age 17 years
  • Even up rule will be permitted
  • Scoring, ladders, finals, premiership
  • Best and Fairest awarded, Leading goal kickers awarded

 

Senior Community Women’s Development Competition

To cater for women who would prefer a more social approach, appealing to entry level participants that are learning the game in a safe environment.

  • Modified Wrap Tackle
  • Last Possession Rule for Out of Bounds
  • Minimum age 17 years
  • Scoring, ladders. No finals - highest ranked team awarded season grade trophy
