Osborne Park Beyond Blue match- 29 July

The Osborne Park Football Club are holding their annual Charity Round supporting Beyond Blue on Saturday 29 July. 

The event held at Robinson Reserve, Osborne Park kicks off with the Reserves at 12:30 and league following at 2:15. There will be a Raffle, mini-games and much more with proceeds going to Beyond Blue.

Red Arm Band Round- Sat 8 July

This Saturday 8 July the WAAFL is encouraging all players, officials and umpires to wear red arm bands to raise awareness of and remove racial vilification in football.

The red arm band is used to symbolise Earth-Blood-Life; we come from different places but we are all the same.

Our first taste of wet weather for the year was experienced right across the day in Round 12.

A Grade

Top three sides University, North Beach and Fremantle CBC all had wins over the weekend to secure their positions.

Fourth placed Scarborough however lost to sixth placed Curtin Uni Wesley by 17 points. The win pushes Curtin Uni Wesley into fifth position.

After losing last week Trinity Aquinas managed to find some form to defeat bottom of the ladder Whitford by 20 points.

Sixth placed Kalamunda faced off with third placed Fremantle CBC at Ray Owen Reserve on Saturday.

Fremantle CBC went into the match as favourites with an impressive eight wins and three losses for the season.

However, despite their ladder positions Kalamunda managed to hold off Fremantle CBC to record an 8.12 (60) to 8.8 (56) victory. They were helped up forward by their coach Justin Simpson who kicked three goals for the match.

Trinity Aquinas snatch win from West Coast + Video Highlights

Round 10 of the A-grade season saw West Coast travel down to Bill Grayden Reserve to take on Trinity Aquinas in a tight contest for dominance.

Trinity Aquinas inflicted heartbreak to West Coast who battled it out for a 2-point lead in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.

However, West Coast were left frustrated as they gave away a 50m penalty, resulting in a TA goal to give them a four point lead with minutes on the clock.

Senior Women's Community Carnivals

It has been identified there is a need to establish a Senior Women’s Community Competition to provide an entry level competition for women to play football.

This year the WAFC is hosting three carnivals to help establish interested clubs to participate in full competition in 2018.

After ten rounds North Beach are sitting in second position with eight wins and two losses. That’s three more wins and two positions higher on the ladder than this time last year.

North Beach have defeated both 2016 Grand Finalists Trinity Aquinas and Scarborough already this season as well as current ladder leaders University. Last weekend they defeated Kalamunda, a team they lost to in round one this season.

Their only other loss this season has been against the in form Fremantle CBC by just nine points.

Bullcreek Leeming turns blue for worthy cause

On Saturday 3 June, the usual black and red seen at the Bullcreek Leeming Amateur Football Club turned to blue in support of non-profit organisation Beyond Blue. Beyond Blue address issues associated with depression, anxiety and related mental disorders.

The fundraiser held at Beasley Park aimed to raise $5,000 for Beyond Blue in its inaugural year, however the club ended up raising nearly double the intended target with around $9,000 raised.

West Coast defeated Curtin Uni Wesley by just three points to lift them further away from relegation position.

North Beach and Fremantle CBC continue to climb up the ladder with North Beach now sitting in second position and Fremantle CBC in third. North Beach gave University their first loss of the season with a five-point win while Fremantle CBC defeated bottom of the ladder Whitford by 79 points.

WAAFL State U23’s go down in close contest

The West Coast Eagles State U23 Amateur Team battled wet conditions on the Gold Coast as they came up against Queensland on Sunday.

The match was contested throughout with the margin never exceeding five points at every break. The wet conditions made it tough to get clean possession of the football as the rain continued to fall for the entire match.

Thomas Cuijpers kicked two goals for the WAAFL in the first quarter as they looked to be the better side early on. However, Queensland added 1.1 to 0.4 in the second quarter to leave the scores level at the main break.

West Coast steal vital win over Wembley

Round 7 of the A-Grade season saw West Coast host Wembley at City Beach Oval in a close contest.

Both teams were desperate for a win as they sat near the bottom of the ladder, with Wembley on 0-1 and West Coast winless for the season.

It was West Coast that managed to remain dominant throughout most of the game, giving them the win despite a late surge from Wembley.

The final score of West Coast’s 12.7 (79) beating Wembley’s 10.9 (69) was a relief to West Coast supporters, who came down in strong numbers for an all-day club event.

The game opened with Wembley kicking the first few goals and dominating possession in their forward 50.
